Thurman G. Hisey, age 90, of Portland passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare in Portland.
Thurman was born in Portland on April 29, 1930, the son of Thurman A. and Leona S. (Miller) Hisey. He was married Dec. 1, 1956, to Elizabeth Zimmerman and she passed away on Aug. 25, 2009.
He was a 1947 Portland High School graduate and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a meat cutter for over 30 years. Thurman had worked at several places, including Jim's IGA, Berne Tube and Jay Products. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Jay County Historical Society, Jay Lodge #87 F&AM and Odd Fellows Lodge.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Chappell (husband: William) of Bluffton; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Darell Borders presiding. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Zion Early Learning Center or Jay County Historical Society.
