Police pick-up

The Dunkirk Police Department is partnering with Dunkirk Church of the Nazarene’s food pantry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because many have been without income, the food pantry, which has been in operation for more than seven years, is seeing a jump in traffic.

The food pantry, which is completely free, is open the second Thursday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m..

Those wishing to donate food items can drop leave the items on their front porch and contact the police department between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

A Dunkirk police officer will then pick up the donations and deliver them to the food pantry.

Doing it this way complies with social distancing guidelines while still helping other Dunkirk citizens, noted Chief Dane Mumbower.

Rescheduled

LifeStream has rescheduled its annual Aging Well Conference to Thursday, June 3, 2021. The new date will be hosted at the same location, the Horizon Convention Center in Muncie, and LifeStream anticipates hosting the same speakers and breakout sessions that were planned for the 2020 date.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed those plans.

The Aging Well Conference is designed for older adults, caregivers, wellness enthusiasts, and health professionals to learn how to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of others. The conference includes a resource fair, light breakfast, and educational breakout sessions.

Registration and sponsorship/resource fair information will be released early spring 2021.

Those who would like more information or to receive registration information to their home/email may contact Angie Jenkins, Outreach Coordinator, at (765) 759-1121 or [email protected].

No round-up

The coronavirus pandemic has led to the cancelation of the Jay Schools Kindergarten Round-up.

Parents who need to pre-register a kindergarten student for next fall should go to bit.ly/JSCkindergarten.

Parents who have already pre-registered don’t need to complete the pre-registration form again.

Online registration for the 2020-2021 school year will take place beginning the week of July 27. On-site registration will be Aug. 3 and Aug. 5. Each child planning to attend Jay Schools in the fall will need to be registered.

Prior to fall registration, individual schools will be reaching out to parents to schedule the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment, a Jay Schools spokesman said.

The assessment is designed to give the school a basic understanding of each child’s current academic ability. This assessment usually takes no more than an hour to complete. Specific details regarding testing will be released the week of July 27.

Schools will be sharing additional information via school websites and social media sites.
