LeRoy Blumenhorst Jr., 86, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Junior was born in Dunkirk, Indiana, on Oct. 2, 1933, a son of the late Bernice L. (Goodyear) and LeRoy Blumenhorst Sr. He was a 1952 graduate of Dunkirk High School, served in the Army National Guard and worked as an “Up Keep Man” at Kerr Glass for over 40 years before his retirement.
Junior was a member of Northside Assembly of God Church, the Camping Club and enjoyed fishing, traveling, puzzles and watching country western shows.
He was the husband of Thelma J. (Logan) Blumenhorst who he happily married on July 11, 1957, and sadly lost in 2010.
He is survived by one son, Terry Blumenhorst (wife: Renee) of Dunkirk, Indiana; two brothers, Robert Blumenhorst (wife: Arlene) of Portland, Indiana, and Jim Blumenhorst (wife: Carolyn) of Dunkirk, Indiana; one sister, Mary Niebarger of Pennville, Indiana; three granddaughters, Megan Sollars (husband: Jake), LeeAnn Clott (husband: Edwin) and Lexi Steed (husband: Nate); six great-grandchildren, Rylee Sollars, Rayden Sollars, Leeland Sollars, Emma Clott, Brinley Steed and Kalvin Hardwick, and two precious little ones on the way, which Junior was very excited about.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife Thelma; an infant son; one brother; and two sisters.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday, May 27, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel. Private family funeral services will follow with Pastor Carlton Bowden officiating. Burial will be held in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Heart or Cancer society.
Please be assured that for your health and safety all CDC, government and local health department recommendations and guidelines are followed (facility maximum of people at one time up to social distancing allowance for square footage, masks are to be worn while in attendance, social distancing is clearly marked, hand washing stations and sanitizers available, and extra cleaning and disinfecting measures have been taken).
