As clubs re-start, send in info
Taking note
As things begin to return to a “new normal,” many clubs and organizations are beginning to meet again on a regular basis.
For instance, the Mississinewa Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is meeting today at 6:30 p.m. at the Jay County Historical Museum at the end of East Main Street, Portland.
But each organization is making its own decisions about holding meetings.
To help sort this out, clubs and organizations who are resuming their regular gatherings are asked to email that information to [email protected] or drop a note to P.O. Box 1049, 309 W. Main St., Portland, so that the Community Calendar feature on this page can be re-built to reflect changes in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Women over age of 18 interested in joining the DAR are invited to attend tonight’s meeting along with chapter members. For more information about the DAR chapter, contact Regent Kathy Selman at (260) 251-1694 or Sue Sommers at (260) 726-2678.
Schedule shifts
Jay Community Center’s calendar has been undergoing serious revision during the coronavirus pandemic.
Plans currently call for the fitness center to reopen on May 26. A 5K run is slated for June 14, and senior programming is expected to resume on July 6.
T-ball is expected to start on July 11, and the deadline for registration is June 14.
The staff notes, however, that virtually everything is subject to change, depending upon guidance from the Indiana State Board of Health and the governor’s office.
Among the items still to be determined are 24-hour access to the fitness center, opening the walking tracks and gym, fitness classes, rentals and summer day camp.
The Mother-Son dance has been moved to May of 2021.
A number of fixtures on the community center calendar have had to be canceled entirely. Those include Boomer spring soccer, flag football and basketball as well as the men’s 5-on-5 league.
The annual Meeker Golf Outing will be rescheduled in either August or September.
