To the editor:
Ami Huffman, the overpaid Jay County director of community development for JCDC, and Blake Watson, part-time employee for the Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau, made public statements that should have angered every business and resident in this county.
Jay County businesses are facing difficult times without the community developer and an employee of the visitor and tourism bureau, or should I call them community and business destroyers, asking Jay County residents not to do business with participants or sponsors of a public event.
The “American Patriots’ Day” parade was to honor our military personnel, police, firefighters, first responders and others who gave or are giving of themselves during these times of crisis. And yes, a president was mentioned, but not by name since we still have five presidents living. Three are Democrats and two are Republicans. But not one named, so there was certainly no preference here.
Huffman and Watson should have been fired as soon as their statements hit the press. And, if not then, their boards of directors should have acted immediately and dismissed these community and business destroyers with a dishonorable discharge for the disgrace these two have brought upon our county, businesses and future.
JCDC states, “The focus of the JCDC has remained the same for 20 years. We are here to assist our community in growing their economy.” It appears from Huffman’s statement that she must not share this vision as an employee of JCDC.
With public statements like those from Huffman and Watson, the Jay County economy and population will certainly continue to struggle and lose opportunities. For the last 20 years, Jay County’s population has continue to drop, and with people like these two, things won’t get better. I certainly hope their boards of directors and those countywide government entities that fund them will show their concern and realize the seriousness of their statements and get rid of them now, if they have not already done so.
