Obituary
Jack “Dave” Thomas, age 82, passed away on Nov. 6, 2020, at his home in Portland, Indiana.
Dave was born on Aug. 27, 1938, to Jack and Gladys (Atkinson) Thomas of Indianapolis.
He married the love of his life, Yvonne (Haskett), on Sept. 19, 1987, surrounded by all their friends and family at the home they shared in Westfield. They share four children, David Bruce, Joyce Mulvey of Indianapolis, Doug (Cheryl) Thomas of Indianapolis and Kelly (Ryan) Johnson of Portland. In all, they share 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Dave was a very hard worker and dedicated a total of 40 years as a volunteer/paid fireman at Washington Township Fire Department in Marion County. After retiring from the fire department, he drove a school bus for 14 years at Carmel Clay Schools while he owned and operated a lawn care business with his wife.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; son David Bruce; and sister Shirley Lawrence.
The viewing will be Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana, from 10 a.m. to noon. A Masonic service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a farewell tribute for a firefighter at noon. Burial will be at Eagle Creek Cemetery in Westfield, Indiana. All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, at Glass Capital Grill, 126 E. Commerce St., Dunkirk, Indiana, from 1 to 6 p.m.
