To the editor:
Xi Chapter, Delta Theta Tau, made the difficult decision in July to cancel our 36th Annual Delts’ Holiday Crafts & Gift Show because we would never want to risk the health and safety of our vendors, community and Delt sisters by hosting a large gathering in the midst of a pandemic.
This was the most difficult decision we have ever had to make because this event allows us to put nearly $25,000 back into our community every year to lend a helping hand to so many wonderful and deserving local organizations and individuals. We also know that our event has been helpful to many of our local businesses and restaurants in the past because, often times, people who attended our show would also pay a visit to many of Portland’s local establishments during their trip into town.
Remember When owners and operators, Cindy Shawver and Missy Puterbaugh, came up with a plan and have worked hard to establish an event called “Shop Portland Like it is the Delt’s Craft Show Day.” On this day, the date of the previously scheduled show, Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the participating businesses listed below, will be donating a portion of their sales to Xi Chapter, Delta Theta Tau Sorority’s philanthropic fund so we can continue to give back to our community throughout the year.
During the “Shop Portland Like it is the Delts’ Craft Show Day” event, there will also be a goodies and treats fundraiser held by the Delts on the porch of “Remember When,” located on the southwest corner on the corner of Main and Meridian Streets in Portland from 10 a.m. until we are sold out.
We hope that this wonderful event will bring shoppers to Portland and jump start the Christmas shopping season while also benefiting our organization and our local small businesses.
This awful virus has brought about difficult times for each and every one of us, including small businesses and service clubs, so we feel immensely blessed by the willingness of our local businesses to participate in our event so they can help us, Xi Chapter, Delta Theta Tau, continue our endeavors to give back to our community. It is a shining example of the love that our community shares. So, to Cindy and Missy, and to each of these businesses, thank you for your warm generosity and support.
To our community, thank you for your constant support over the past 35 years of Delts’ Holiday Crafts & Gifts Shows. We look forward to seeing you out and about “shopping like it’s the craft show” at the businesses listed below and at our goodies and treats fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
