Winterfest for years was held before Thanksgiving. Recently, it has been moved to early December.
This year, it’s both.
Jay County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for a Winterfest celebration that spans three weekends, beginning with Christmas at the Courthouse on Friday.
The annual celebration will launch with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. Friday on the south side of Jay County Courthouse. The community sing will follow at 6:15 p.m.
There will be a full day of activities Nov. 21, with the Grinch Breakfast and Karnival from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Jay Community Center. The Little Miss Winterfest pageant will be at 2 p.m. at Jay County High School, and the Parade of Lights will be at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Portland.
The Winterfest 5K Run/Walk is slated for 8 a.m. Dec. 5, with Christmas home tours from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 6. The celebration will conclude the following weekend with the Winterfest Ball and carriage rides at 7 p.m. at Jay County Event Center.
For more information about the events, call (260) 726-4481 or visit the chamber at 118 S. Meridian St., Portland.
