Shelby Franklin Jr., age 85, a resident of Portland, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at IU Health Jay in Portland.
Shelby was born on Oct. 28, 1935, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of James Shelby and Dorothy (McCaffrey) Franklin. Shelby worked for Brodericks of Muncie for 28 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland. Shelby married Janeen Ward on June 7, 1964.

His loving wife of 56 years: Janeen Franklin – Portland, Indiana
His children: Candy Hobson (husband John) – Winchester, Indiana, Lori Hirst (Fiancé Tim Frazee) – Eaton, Indiana, Daniel Franklin (wife Tammy) – Greenville, Ohio, Amy Smith – Geneva, Indiana, Jason Franklin – Muncie, Indiana
Six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
A service to celebrate Shelby’s life will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Gil Alicea will conduct the service and burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
