Duane Harter, age 74, a resident of Portland, passed away on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, in Muncie.
Duane was born on June 28, 1946, the son of Hank Harter and Juanita Steen. He married Louise Brown on Nov. 13, 1964.
Duane was a member of The Family Worship Center in Portland. He and his wife owned and operated Harter’s Fireworks in Portland for 46 years. Duane served as president of Hollowblock Monster Cruisers for 11 years and enjoyed attending car shows with his wife. He loved the outdoors, spending many days hunting and fishing with his sons.
Survivors include:
His wife of 56 years — Louise Harter, Portland
Two sons — Mike Harter (wife: Tammy), Richmond, and Mitch Harter (wife: Lisa), Portland
Two sisters — Candy Waters, North Carolina, and Shawn Bullard (husband: Phil), Hartford City
Ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren
Duane had a special place in his heart for his granddaughter Kecia, who was like a daughter to him. His grandson Jordon also spent many special days with Duane. He loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Family Worship Center in Portland. Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church with burial to follow at Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
Memorials may be directed towards the family of Duane Harter.
