Indianapolis is one of my favorite cities. I’ve been there following athletes on their quest for state glory or to run half marathons. But I never really had the opportunity to explore the city. That is until early November when my wife and I got away for our first wedding anniversary.
While out for a run along the canal walk, I noticed areas I thought would make for great photographs, given the night sky, the lights and some changing fall foliage. Armed with a new tripod, after my run I went back to explore the Indy lights on a cool, brisk autumn night.
There’s plenty to see along the Canal Walk, which is part of Indiana Central Canal that was dug in the early 1800s. It is home to the USS Indianapolis National Memorial, a 9/11 memorial and the Congressional Medal of Honor memorial, among others.
The canal offers visitors plenty of views, whether it is the local architecture, fountains, artwork or a glimpse of downtown, there is much to do around the 2.8-mile loop.
