To the editor:
I was under the impression that the parking spaces on Main Street on the west side of Portland were for “practice parking” for when they were anticipating redoing Meridian Street.
Now that they have scrapped the idea for Meridian Street, I think they need to put the parking spaces back to their original design on Main Street. Continuing the way they are presently will probably destroy some of the businesses on that street.
There are businesses on Main Street that have elderly people visiting who do not like, or even want to attempt, to bank into an angled parking space. And what about the new business that just opened? Do you want to destroy their business before they even get the chance to make a go of it?
It’s almost like the city has no respect for the businesses on that street.
This is just my opinion. I think the “practice parking” is over. I would like to see the parking spaces returned to their original design on Main Street.
