MARION — Crosby Heniser had an early advantage.
He wasn’t able to keep it long.
Heniser was the lone Patriot to take a set Tuesday as the Jay County High School boys tennis team had its season end with a 5-0 loss to the Lapel Bulldogs in the regional semifinal at Marion.
The Bulldogs advance to the regional final tonight against Delta, which knocked off defending regional champion and host Marion 3-2 in the other semifinal Tuesday night.
Heniser took the first set against Lapel freshman Jacob Erwin 7-6 (7-3) in their No. 1 singles match, but lost the next two 6-4, 6-2 in the longest match of the evening.
At No. 2 singles, Simon Dirksen dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Isaac Bair, and Abraham Dirksen fell 6-3, 6-4 to Camden Gooding at No. 3 singles.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Frankie Crump and Gavin Myers fell to Corbin Renihan and Landon Bair 6-3, 6-1. Darius Esparza and Sam Myers lost at No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-0 to Ian Bailey and Nicholas Thalls.

WOODBURN — The Jay County Junior High School eighth grade football team finished off a perfect Allen County Athletic Conference schedule by beating the host Woodlan Warriors 8-6 on Tuesday to win the conference championship.
The Patriots (6-1, 6-0 ACAC) got 112 rushing yards on 12 carries from Sean Bailey, and an additional 50 yards on six touches from AJ Myers.
Vasin Ridgeway had two interceptions, while Aiden Phillips and Ben Crouch also picked off passes.
