MARION — Crosby Heniser had an early advantage.

He wasn’t able to keep it long.

Heniser was the lone Patriot to take a set Tuesday as the Jay County High School boys tennis team had its season end with a 5-0 loss to the Lapel Bulldogs in the regional semifinal at Marion.

The Bulldogs advance to the regional final tonight against Delta, which knocked off defending regional champion and host Marion 3-2 in the other semifinal Tuesday night.

Heniser took the first set against Lapel freshman Jacob Erwin 7-6 (7-3) in their No. 1 singles match, but lost the next two 6-4, 6-2 in the longest match of the evening.

At No. 2 singles, Simon Dirksen dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Isaac Bair, and Abraham Dirksen fell 6-3, 6-4 to Camden Gooding at No. 3 singles.

The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Frankie Crump and Gavin Myers fell to Corbin Renihan and Landon Bair 6-3, 6-1. Darius Esparza and Sam Myers lost at No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-0 to Ian Bailey and Nicholas Thalls.
