Local organizations have scheduled opportunities for residents to get a free flu shot.
Meridian Health Services will host a one-day flu shot clinic Wednesday while Mercer Health will offer shots at various sites over the next two weeks.
Free flu shots will be available at more than a dozen Meridian sites, including two in Jay County, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The local sites are the MeridianMD Convenience Care facility inside IU Health Jay, 500 W. Votaw St., Portland, and the MeridianMD West Jay Clinic at 1150 S. Main St., Dunkirk. Mercer Health will offer drive-thru flu shot clinics beginning Monday. Those will include a clinic Oct. 21 at its Fort Recovery location at 1830 Union City Road. Appointments are required by calling (419) 375-4144.
Hosting hike
Limberlost State Historic Site will host a guided tour of Limberlost Swamp Nature Preserve at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Attendees will join a Limberlost naturalist for a hike along Deacon’s Trail in the preserve. The naturalist will provide information about the plants and animals native to the preserve, which was used as the setting for a pair of books by author, naturalist and photographer Gene Stratton-Porter. Participants should be prepared to hike up to 3 miles.
Admission ranges from $3 for youth members to $5 for adult non-members. Pre-registration is required by contacting Curt Burnette at [email protected] or (260) 368-7428.
The event will begin at the Limberlost Visitor Center, 202 E. 6th St., Geneva.
