Pumpkin festival set for Oct. 17

Giant pumpkins are coming to Pennville.
Pennville Pumpkin Festival is slated for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pennville Park.
Prior to the festival itself, the Masons of Pennville will host a biscuits and gravy breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.
There will also be a 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.
The festival officially begins at 11 a.m. with a costume contest, carnival games and activities. Awards for the giant pumpkin contest are at 1 p.m.
There will also be an antique firetruck show, and vendors and food will be available. Free hay rides will be available throughout the day.
The Rust Belt Drifters will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the pumpkin dessert challenge and chili cook-off are at 1 p.m.
Pennville Volunteer Fire Department will host a hog roast following the festival from 4 to 7 p.m.
Help offered
LifeStream has launched its Friendly Caller Program for older adults who are experiencing loneliness and isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.
Volunteers are matched with older adults to provide conversation. Those interested in volunteering can visit lifestreaminc.org/support/volunteer.
Older adults who are interested in receiving calls can sign up by calling (800) 589-1121.
