Campaign season was in full swing 25 years ago this week as Indiana’s attorney general made a visit to Jay County.
The October 14, 1995, edition of The Commercial Review featured coverage of Pamela Carter visiting Jay County to be the guest speaker at the Jay County Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.
Carter, the first black woman to serve as a state’s attorney general, talked with local Democrats about enthusiasm heading int the general election. She also told a story about her visit to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.
“It’s beautiful,” she said. “It’s elegant. But it touches people in a very specific way.”
Carter discussed various campaign issues, including funding for Medicare and Medicaid and loans for college students.
She encouraged those in attendance to get out and vote.
Carter, now director of energy company Enbridge, served as Indiana’s attorney general from 1993 to 1997.
