William Riley Back
Obituaries
William Riley Back, 82, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk, Indiana.
Riley was born in Hazard, Kentucky, on March 17, 1938, a son of the late Lula (Wooten) and Carlie Back. He worked hard as a farmer in the tobacco fields in Kentucky in his early years, later traveling to Dunkirk for work at Indiana Glass, dedicating 36 years before his retirement.
Riley was the husband of Wanda Sue (Donathan) Back who he happily married on June 1, 1963. He was a member of Local Union #501 and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, painting, gardening, cooking, watching Andy Griffith, wrestling, game shows, sports, the Cincinnati Reds, “Bush People,” listening to bluegrass and southern gospel music, playing cards, crossword puzzles, working on cars, building birdhouses, attending church, going on vacations and spending time with his family.
Riley was a very artistic man who loved to work with his hands and picked up many new hobbies over the years, most recently taking a swing at a TikTok video with his granddaughters.
Whether with his strong and devoted "Dad" side or his silly and ornery "Papaw" side, his love for family showed.
Riley is survived by his loving wife Wanda; son Bill A. Back (wife: Michelle); daughter Kim Back-Edwards (husband: Jeff); brother J.C. Back; sisters Hazel Lawson, Faye Gunnell and Betty Purvis; five grandchildren, Tyler, Kimbra, Emily, Samantha and Kameron; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Pearl Back; and three sisters, Margaret, Jeanette and Shirley.
