Obituary
Rosa Lea Hutchens, age 93, a resident of Portland, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She retired in 1992 as a nurse’s aide at Jay County Hospital after 22 years. She also did private home health care in the Portland area. She was a big Elvis Presley fan and loved playing Bingo and spending time with her family.
Rosa was born on Jan. 2, 1927, in Clark County, Kentucky, the daughter of Clarence and Emma (Adams) Roe. She married George Hutchens and he passed away on Nov. 17, 1969.
Survivors include:
One daughter — Linda Aker (husband: Mike), Portland, Indiana
One son — George “Don” Hutchens, Portland, Indiana
Nine grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Brenda Hartley and Bonnie Grigsby; and a grandson, Matt Aker.
Visitation for Rosa Hutchens will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Herb Hummel officiating the services. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
Memorials may be directed to Persimmon Ridge Activities Fund.
Face covering will be required at the funeral home when social distancing cannot be maintained.
