Five local nurses and nursing students were recently awarded scholarships.
The IU Health Jay Foundation, in partnership with The Portland Foundation, presented the Sharon Tobe Memorial Nursing Scholarship to Natalie Pottkotter and Karri Wymer.
Receiving the Judith Sipe/Dr. Eugene Gillum Memorial Scholarship were Angela Hirst, Ashley Corwin and Megan Smith.
The Tobe scholarship is named in honor of the longtime hospital employee who was the manager of the emergency department at the time of her death. It goes to students from Jay County or Mercer County who are enrolled in a nursing program.
The Sipe/Gillum scholarship, named for a former patient care technician and family practice doctor, respectively, was created to help IU Health Jay employees who are continuing their education.
