DELPHOS, Ohio — The Indians opened conference play on Thursday.
The Blue Jays didn’t put up much of a fight.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team swept the St. John’s Blue Jays on Thursday, 25-20, 25-18, 25-15.
The Tribe improves to 3-0 (1-0 Midwest Athletic Conference), while the Blue Jays dip to 1-2 (0-1 MAC).
Whitley Rammel led the Indians with 12 kills and three blocks, while Paige Fortkamp was second with nine kills and had a team-best three digs. Hope Wendel was a perfect 27-of-27 from the service line with a team-high five aces.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, but final scores were not provided.
Mara Pearson paced the Tribe with nine kills, and Grace Klingshirn tallied four kills. Brooklyn Jutte recorded five aces.
Title hopes slip away
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team had its title hopes slip away on Thursday with a 193-194 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Coldwater maintains its hold on first place in the Midwest Athletic Conference by moving to 5-0 in league play, while the Indians dip to 4-1.
Fort Recovery’s Jalyn Bruns earned match medalist honors by shooting 42. Shelby Stammen was second with 48, and Trisha Gaerke finished with 51. Kendra Dues completed the Tribe’s team score with 53.
Alli Vaughn (56) and Paige Bihn (59) also competed but they did not factor into the team score.
Boys fall to Cavs
Just like the girls, the Fort Recovery boys golf team lost by one stroke to the Coldwater Cavaliers on Thursday, 179-180, at Portland Golf Club.
Derek Lochtefeld of FRHS (4-5, 3-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) shot 41 to earn match medalist honors. He was three strokes better than teammate Carson Rammel, who was three shots in front of Russell Gehle. Seth Lochtefeld carded 48 as the Tribe’s No. 4 score.
Zander Kunkler (51) and Isaac LeFevre (56) also played for the Indians.
FR 7th ties
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh grade football team played to a 14-14 tie with the New Bremen Cardinals on Thursday.
The Tribe eighth graders lost 20-2.
Reece Wendel scored both touchdowns for the seventh grade Indians (0-0-1). Colson Post had a 2-point conversion run.
