Obituary
John “Tom” Rathbun, 76, of Dunkirk, passed away at his home on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, surrounded by his family.
Tom, the son of the late Ray and Thelma (Poffenbarger) Rathbun, was born in Portland on May 21, 1944, and graduated from Redkey High School in 1962.
Mr. Rathbun retired from Borg Warner in 2006 after 20 years of service. He also worked for UPS, Kerr Glass in Dunkirk, Hartford Concrete in Hartford City and Super Wash in Dunkirk after retiring from Borg Warner.
Tom enjoyed working in his blacksmith shop and loved animals, especially horses and dogs.
Surviving are his wife, Sherry Rathbun, Portland; his children, Tony Rathbun (DeLee), Portland, and Kimberly Rathbun (Jason), Dunkirk; stepdaughter, Kendra Smith Topp (Keith), Botkins, Ohio; a brother, Mike Rathbun (Sally), Muncie; four grandchildren, Amanda Lewellen (Jess), Megan Patterson, Kinley Topp and Keaton Topp; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
Mr. Rathbun was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Sinclair; and stepson, Brian Smith.
At Tom’s request, private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Rescue Fund (A.R.F.), 1209 W. Riggin Road, Muncie, IN 47303.
