Jay County High School’s volleyball team lost to the Woodlan Warriors on Thursday, 25-16, 26-24, 25-22.
It marked the fourth consecutive loss for Jay County, which dips to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in Allen County Athletic Conference play.
Natalie Miles and Alana Kunkler shared the team high with 11 kills, and Miles posted a squad-best 15 digs. Madison Dirksen collected five kills and two blocks, while she and Kunkler had three aces each.
Pacie Denney finished with 21 assists.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also lost, 25-15, 22-25, 16-14.
Lauren Brewster and Bella Denton finished with four kills each. Ralyn Chaffins collected 13 digs and Sophia Saxman finished with nine assists.
Girls play to draw
Jay County’s girls soccer team staved off a fifth straight loss, instead rallying for a 2-2 draw against the Oak Hill Golden Eagles on Thursday.
Jay County (3-4-1) trailed 2-1 late in the second half before netting the equalizer to prevent the defeat.
Payton McCoy and Mara Bader each scored goals for Jay County. McCoy tallied her team-leading sixth mark of the season, while Bader notched her fourth goal.
Tricia Ison turned away nine Oak Hill shots.
Jay County returns to action at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bellmont.
Golfers lose to Delta
Two players scored in the 40s but it wasn’t enough as the Jay County girls golf team lost to Delta on Thursday, 180-212, at Portland Golf Club.
Abby Huey sank par twice on her way to a team-best 45, and Erika Heitkamp had one par and finished with a round of 48. Raquel Werhly shot 55 for the Patriots’ No. 3 score, and Paityn Chapman completed the team score with 64.
Jacqueline Smith also competed but her 66 did not factor into the Jay County total. Rosealynne Smith (68) and Cassandra Coffin (69) played for the JCHS junior varsity team.
JH girls are perfect
Jay County Junior High School’s girls cross country team recorded a perfect score in beating Bellmont 15-50 on Thursday at Hudson Family Park.
The Patriot boys won as well, 25-30.
Alexis Sibray was first overall for the Jay County girls with her time of 14 minutes, 49 seconds. Emily Manor was runner-up in 15:13, and Paityn Wendel took third in 16:14. Ayla Grabner (15:22) placed fourth and Emily Young (16:04) was fifth.
Joseph Boggs won the boys race in 13:01. Gabe Pinkerton was one second behind in second place, and Creed Beiswanger finished third in 13:42. Seth Bee (15:39) ended ninth and Max Klopfenstein (16:28) was 10th.
8th football loses
DUNKIRK — Jay County’s eighth grade football team fell to the Muncie Southside Panthers on Thursday, 14-0.
AJ Myers completed both of his pass attempts for 75 yards, and also had 40 yards on five carries. Sean Bailey rushed six times for 75 yards, and Lucas Strait caught one pass for 60 yards.
Results for the seventh grade game were not provided.
