Citizens academy registration open

Taking note

Local residents will have the opportunity to learn about law enforcement.

Portland Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy.

Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Sept. 24 and run through Nov. 5. The academy offers the opportunity to interact with local officers, learn about their responsibilities and do ride alongs.

Applications are available at the department’s dispatch window at Portland City Hall, 321 N. Meridian St. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

The class size will be limited because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On the list

Ivy Tech Community College recently released the dean’s list for the summer semester at its Fort Wayne campus.

Making this list were Sarah Newton of Portland and Alexis Beer and Kandis Thieme of Geneva. In order to be on the list, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5.
