The Indians suffered a tough conference loss to begin the week.
They rebounded Tuesday with a resounding win.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls golf team had all four scoring players shoot 48 or better Tuesday in defeating the visiting Arcanum Trojans 179-234 at Portland Golf Club.
Jalyn Bruns was the Tribe’s top golfer, making par four times on her way to a 6-over-par 41 to earn match medalist honors. Shelby Stammen had par twice and was three strokes behind Bruns, while Alli Vaughn also hit par three times on her way to a 46.
Kendra Dues, playing out of the No. 5 spot, made birdie on the par-3 13th hole and also made par on the par-3 18th as she ended her round with a 48.
Trisha Gaerke and Paige Bihn shot 51 and 52, respectively, but their scores did not factor into the team score.
Jay gets swept
MONROE — Jay County’s boys tennis team suffered a 5-0 sweep Tuesday at the hands of Adams Central.
Crosby Hensier lost his No. 1 singles match to Jaren Hildebrand 6-2, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Abraham Dirksen lost to Austin Maldeney 6-1, 6-1, and Simon Dirksen dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Spencer Gerber at No. 2 singles.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team of Frankie Crump and Gavin Myers fell to Elijah Moore and Reece Moser 6-0, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles duo of Darius Esparza and Sam Myers lost to Noah Crockett and Cody Hawkins 6-1, 6-0.
Jay County’s junior varsity team lost 6-2. Gage Sims and Lucas Lyons teamed for a doubles win, as did Skyler Bee and Luke Muhlenkamp.
The Patriots (6-6, 0-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) beat Blackford on the road on Monday, 5-0.
Boys end streak
RICHMOND — Jay County’s boys soccer team snapped its three-game losing streak Tuesday by beating the Richmond Red Devils, 2-0.
Cristian Marentes put the Patriots (3-5) on the board in the first half by scoring a goal on an assist from Hunter Shumaker. In the second half, Gio Perod doubled Jay County’s lead by finding the back of the net on a Kyzer Grabner helper.
Ian Ruiz turned away 15 Red Devil shots to earn the shutout.
Patriots fall to Jets
MONROE — The Jay County volleyball team lost its fourth straight match, falling to the Class 2A No. 9 Adams Central Jets 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 on Tuesday at The Hangar.
The loss drops the Patriots to 3-9 on the year and 0-3 in Allen County Athletic Conference play.
Natalie Miles led the Patriot offense with six kills, and Madison Dirksen was second with five kills. Pacie Denney tallied 14 assists.
Alana Kunkler served nine points, and Grace Brewster registered two aces. Brenna Haines totaled 11 digs to post the team high, and Kunkler contributed seven kills.
