MONROEVILLE — The Jay County Junior High School girls cross country team had a perfect score Tuesday in beating the host Heritage Patriots, 15-50.
The boys also won, 20-38.
Alexis Sibray was the overall winner with her time of 13 minutes, 14 seconds. Ayla Grabner (14:00) was second, Emily Manor (14:17) placed third, Paityn Wendel (14:21) took fourth and Emily Young (15:19) ended fifth for the perfect score.
Joseph Boggs was first in 11:57 to give Jay County the sweep. Creed Beiswanger was second in 12:49, and Gabe Pinkerton was third in 12:54.
Seth Bee placed sixth in 14:26, and Max Klopfenstein was eighth in 15:15.
Jay 7th still unbeaten
MONROE — Jay County’s seventh grade volleyball team remained unbeaten on Tuesday, knocking off the Adams Central Jets 25-11, 25-15.
The Eighth graders lost 25-10, 25-17.
Mya Kunkler, Kayla Jetmore and Lani Muhlenkamp each had two kills for the seventh graders (8-0). Jetmore also had two aces, and Kendel Rowles chipped in one kill.
Cassie Petro, Morgan DeHoff, Jasmine Esparza and Jaelynn Lykins all had one kill for the seventh grade squad (6-2). Addison Denney and Brenna Bailey had four digs each, and Lykins collected two aces.
Football splits
PONETO — Four players combined for nearly 200 rushing yards in leading the Jay County eighth grade football team to a 27-0 victory against Southern Wells on Tuesday.
The seventh grade squad lost, 18-7.
Isaac Dues led the seventh graders with 80 yards on one carry, and Sean Bailey recorded 60 yards on six carries. AJ Myers tallied five carries for 50 yards.
Ben Crouch completed three passes to Bailey for 20 yards. Corey Emery led the defense with five sacks.
Garrett Bennett reached the end zone for the only touchdown for the seventh graders, scoring on a 2-yard rush.
Aden Phillips paced the defense with 10 tackles, and Juaquin Johnson had eight tackles.
