NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — A pair of undefeated, state ranked teams squared off on the volleyball court Thursday night.

The team on more of a roll continued its tear.

Fort Recovery’s volleyball team, which is ranked eighth in Division IV, could not handle the hot New Knoxville Rangers on Thursday in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 loss at The Barn.

The Rangers, ranked sixth in Division IV, move to 8-0 (3-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) and have not dropped a set all season. The Indians fall to 7-1 (2-1 MAC).

Paige Fortkamp led the Indians with 11 kills, while Marissa Gaerke and Whitley Rammel had four kills apiece. Rammel also tallied seven blocks.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost, 16-25, 25-17, 25-15. Grace Klingshirn (six kills) and Paige Guggenbiller (five kills) led the Indians.

Early hole buries Jay

Two goals in the first nine minutes Thursday was too much for the Jay County girls soccer team to overcome in a 4-0 loss to Bellmont.

It added two more tallies in the first half and went into intermission ahead 4-0.

Tricia Ison made 16 saves before exiting the game with an injury. Angel Clairday made eight stops in her place.

The Patriots (3-5-1) are winless in their last six games.
