Arthur Harris

Arthur C. “Art” Harris, age 83, of rural Portland passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

He was born in Union County, Indiana, on March 19, 1937, to Martha J. “Pat” Fields who survives. Art was retired from New Idea in 1999 where he was a millwright and was also a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958.

He was a member of Friends Church and Portland Optimist Club, board member of Quaker Haven and active with Quaker Disaster Relief. He was a 1955 Jefferson High School graduate in Randolph County.

Surviving are his wife Pat; three sons, Larry Harris (wife: Traci) of Oswego, Illinois, Ron Harris of Portland and James Harris (wife: Renita) of Rossville, Indiana; one daughter, Rebecca Lewis of Portland; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held with burial in the Weimer Cemetery.
