Obituary
Douglas W. Smitley, age 58, of Dunkirk passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020, at his residence.
He was born in Decatur on Jan. 1, 1962, the son of William and Norma (Salmon) Smitley. Doug had worked for Ardagh in Dunkirk and was a 1980 Jay County High School graduate. He was an avid bowler and Indianapolis Colts fan.
Surviving are two sons, Justin Smitley (wife: Brittany) of Dunkirk and Eric Smitley (companion: Katie Beougher) of Dunkirk; his mother, Norma Smitley of Dunkirk; fiancé Karmella VanSkyock of Dunkirk; one brother, David Smitley of Indianapolis; two sisters, Debra Masters (husband: Mike) of Albany and Deana Asbury (husband: Austin) of Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Keppel presiding. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Dunkirk. Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 2 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
