The Patriots were primed to end a pair of streaks.

The Starfires had other ideas.

Jay County High School’s volleyball team lost its fourth consecutive match and is still looking for its first conference win after a 26-24, 25-9, 28-26 loss to the South Adams Starfires on Tuesday.

Jay County, which was without senior Natalie Miles, dips to 3-10 on the season and is 0-4 in Allen County Athletic Conference play. South Adams, meanwhile, moved to 14-4 (3-1 ACAC) and is second in the conference.

Alana Kunkler led the Patriots with seven kills and 10 digs. Madison Dirksen contributed six kills and Abbie Fields contributed three kills. Grace Brewster had eight digs.

Izzy Rodgers was a perfect 11-for-11 from the service line with six points and an ace.

Jay County’s junior varsity team won, 25-21, 25-23. Hannah Muhlenkamp and Sophie Saxman had seven service points and two aces apiece. Mulenkamp also tallied four kills and eight digs while Saxman tallied seven assists.



FR gets upset

FORT RECOVERY — Less than a week after getting swept against one ranked conference opponent, the Fort Recovery volleyball team returned the favor to another by beating the Marion Local Flyers on Tuesday, 25-16, 27-25, 28-26.

The win moved the Division IV No. 9 Indians to 10-1 (3-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) and dropped the second-ranked Flyers to 11-2 (3-1 MAC).

Paige Fortkamp finished with a team-high 13 kills, Marissa Gaerke had 10 kills and Whitley Rammel ended with nine kills. Rammel turned in a team-best seven blocks, Kierra Wendel contributed four aces and four digs, and Lilie Leuthold posted five blocks.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost 25-21, 14-25, 25-7.

Tiegen Fortkamp led the team with nine kills, and Grace Klingshirn collected six kills and two aces.



Tribe falls to ‘Cats

SIDNEY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team dropped a 179-185 match to the Houston Wildcats on Tuesday at Shelby Oaks Golf Club.

Isaac LeFevre posted a 44 to lead the Indians (6-8). Russell Gehle was one stroke behind while Derek Lochtefeld and Carson Rammel both had rounds of 48 to round out the Tribe’s team score. Zander Kunkler (50) and A.J. Romer (63) also competed, but they did not factor into the team score.



Patriots swept

The Jay County Junior High School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both lost to the South Adams Starfires on Tuesday.

The seventh grade squad (8-2) lost 25-13, 25-19, and the eighth graders (6-4) fell 25-7, 25-19.

Kayla Jetmore had two kills for the seventh graders, who also got an ace apiece from Cami Barnett, Elise Mercer and Elizabeth Barnett.

Kiley Williams had three kills to lead the Jay County eighth graders. Heavyn Willoughby turned in three aces and Brenna Bailey finished with three digs.



Jay tops SA

DUNKIRK — Jay County’s seventh and eighth grade football teams emerged victorious against the South Adams Starfires on Tuesday at the former West Jay Middle School.

The seventh graders pitched a 20-0 shutout, wile the eighth grade team won 19-7.

Nick Laux had two touchdowns in the seventh grade contest. He had a 43-yard rushing TD, and caught a 26-yard TD pass from Gradin Swoveland. Xander Torre also had a 25-yard rushing touchdown. Carter Fugiett intercepted a pass and Cody McFarland recovered a fumble.

Sean Bailey (60 yards) and Ben Crouch (50 yards) led the eighth grade rushing attack. Crouch also completed three passes for 30 yards. AJ Myers returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
