VERSAILLES, Ohio — The goal was to finish at the top.

The Indians didn’t get there, but they were still among the best in the league.

Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team placed third Saturday in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament at Stillwater Valley Golf Club.

Coldwater scored 380 to win the team championship. Versailles was runner-up with 402, and Fort Recovery finished with 415 points for third.

Jalyn Bruns, who was two points shy of claiming MAC Player of the Year, led the Indians with her round of 88, which was third overall. Shelby Stammen shot 99 for eighth, and Kendra Dues totaled 112 for 25th. Alli Vaughn (116) was 32nd.

Trisha Gaerke (118) and Paige Bihn (126) also competed, and they were 37th and 43rd, respectively.

St. Henry’s Ella Naumann, who earned MAC Player of the Year with 136 total points, was the individual champion Saturday with her score of 78.

Bruns and Stammen earned first team All-MAC, while Vaughn was honorable mention.



Boys sixth

CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team finished sixth in the MAC Tournament on Saturday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.

Coldwater scored 344 to take home the team championship, three strokes ahead of runner-up Delphos St. John’s. Minster, which was the regular season champion, totaled 356 for third. Fort Recovery ended with 373.

Playing from the No. 5 spot, Cole Muhlenkamp was the top Tribe golfer with his round of 88. Derek Lochtefeld, Carson Rammel and Isaac LeFevre all had scores of 95 to complete the team score.

Zander Kunkler (98) and Russell Gehle (112) also participated but did not factor into the team total.

Coldwater’s Carson Muhlenkamp was the individual champion with his round of 76. Minster’s Joseph Magoto earned MAC Player of the Year honors with 153.5 points, one point ahead of Carson Muhlenkamp.

Rammel and Lochtefeld earned second team All-MAC, while LeFevre was honorable mention.

Diller leads girls

VERSAILLES, Ohio — Megan Diller was 20th overall in leading the Fort Recovery girls cross country team place fourth in the Tour de Sewer on Saturday.

The Indians scored 121 points for fourth. Fort Recovery’s boys scored 251 points for 10th. Other team scores were not available.

Diller had a time of 21 minutes, 29 seconds, for 20th overall. Brynn Stammen was one spot behind in 21:31, which was three seconds ahead of Ellie Will, who was 22nd. Jenna Hart placed 28th in 21:40, and Hanna Metzger ended 36th in 22:05.

Trevor Heitkamp was the top FRHS boy, placing 19th in 18:06. Conner Gower was 63rd in 19:57, and Luke Keller ended 76th in 20:25. Ethan Evers (21:20) and Caleb Rammel (21:51) were 95th and 100th, respectively.

Also running for the FRHS girls were Anna Wendel (43rd), Caitlin Weitzel (51st), Sarah Siefring (52nd), Alexis Wendel (53rd), Alyssa Heinrichs (62nd), Kendra Metzger (70th), Olivia Laux (106th) and Britney Klenke (119th). Jac Barga (127th) and Christian Marchal (133rd) also ran for the boys.



Titans top Tribe

OTTAWA, Ohio — The Ottawa-Glandorf Titans handed the Fort Recovery volleyball team a 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 loss on Saturday in a matchup of top-five teams.

It was the second loss of the season for the Indians (11-2), who came in a tied for fourth in the most recent Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Division IV poll.

The Titans, ranked No. 1 in Division III improved to 15-0.

Paige Fortkamp’s 10 kills were tops for the Indians, who also got five kills and three blocks from Whitley Rammel. Lilie Leuthold added three blocks, Kierra Wendel contributed 10 digs and Marissa Gaerke collected three aces. Faith Wendel contributed nine assists.
