FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — The Indians lost their one-run advantage in the second inning.

They took the lead for good their next time to the plate.

A two-run third inning gave the Fort Recovery High School softball team a lead it never relinquished the rest of the way in an 8-3 victory Friday over Fort Loramie.

After Fort Loramie tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning, Fort Recovery (6-2) got a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-out error, and added an insurance run later in the frame. Fort Loramie pulled within one in the home half of the third, but the Indians added to their advantage with a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

Three runs in the top of the seventh, though, put the game out of reach.

Jackie Homan led the FRHS offense with three hits, including a solo home run in the first inning. Maddie Guggenbiller had a pair of singles, and Sophie Pearson hit a triple.

Kensey Gaerke, Chloey Grisez, Pearson and Homan each had RBIs.

Pearson got the win pitching. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout in four innings.

Tribe offense stalls

DAYTON, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team had its offense stall after the first at-bats in an 11-1, six-inning loss to the Houston Wildcats at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons.

Fort Recovery (3-2) struck for its only run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Riley Will after Ryne Post reached on a hit by pitch and Cade Wendel walked.

The Indians only managed two hits from that point forward, including a double from Daniel Patch and a single by Kendrick Wendel.

Houston scored twice in the home half of the first inning and added another run in the second. The ’Cats plated three runs in the fourth and scored five times in the sixth for the run-rule victory.

Brock Dues took the loss, allowing five runs — three earned — on four hits in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two.
