Obituary
John P. "Phil" VanDenBosch, 85, of Spring Hill, Florida, former resident of Portland, Indiana, passed away July 20, 2021, at his residence.
Phil was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Monrovia, Indiana, to the late John B. and Marcia (Shannon) VanDenBosch. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a Purdue University graduate. He retired after 35 years in the Soil Conservation Service and continued to farm for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in both Portland and Spring Hill.
Phil loved hunting, shooting and making useful wooden things, including gun stocks, tool handles and kitchen utensils. He was an accomplished bread baker, and those who knew him surely miss his contributions to family and church carry-ins.
Phil is survived by his sisters Martha Fisher of Monrovia, Indiana, and Elizabeth (Jim) Sheely of Logansport, Indiana; his wife of eight years, Myrna (VanderBrick) VanDenBosch and her son Bill (Polly) Parks, Spring Hill, Florida; from a previous marriage April 25, 1975, to Mary (Nafe) VanDenBosch (deceased Aug. 21, 2007), step-daughter Connie (Michael) Condon of Yorktown, Indiana; two daughters from first marriage to Joyce Ann (Bradburn) Dobbs, Carol (Darren) Finger of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Christiane (Mike) Freeland of Fowler, Indiana; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Phil will be interred at West Union Cemetery in Monrovia, Indiana, at a private family service.
