FORT RECOVERY — Trash bag prices are going up next year.
Fort Recovery Village Council OK’d a new waste disposal agreement with Maharg trash service Monday. Owner Mike Maharg and village officials agreed to raise the price per trash bag by 10 cents starting in 2022.
It’s been six years since prices have changed, village administrator Randy Diller explained at a meeting July 19 when council discussed renewing a contract with the trash service. (At that time, prices increased by 5 cents.) The former three-year agreement with Maharg trash service ended near the beginning of this year.
Prices will increase 10 cents from the current $1.45 per bag. (The village receives 20 cents of that amount and accrues about $6,000 per year from the service.)
Also Monday, council heard the new sidewalk policy –– it was created to seek and remove trip hazards on village sidewalks — has been completed. It’s a revision of an older policy that had unclear wording, Randy noted.
Council will read the policy and propose an ordinance to enact it Aug. 16.
In other news, council members Al Post, Luke Knapke, Cliff Wendel, Scott Pearson, Erik Fiely and Greg Schmitz heard about two events happening this week.
Fort Recovery Merchants Association will host its “First Thursday in the Fort” event from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday on Wayne Street.
The final installment of the Fort Recovery Friends of the Arts summer concert series is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Van Trees Park. (Mike Sugg –– a Toby Keith tribute and look-alike artist –– and The American Ride will be performing Keith country songs including “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” “Red Solo Cup,” “American Soldier,” and “Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue,” according to the Friends of the Arts website.)
