Carolyn Friend

Carolyn “Sue” Friend, age 78, a resident of Portland, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, at Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, Indiana.

Sue was born May 29, 1943, in Portland, the daughter of Kenneth and Mary Anna (Zigler) Hinshaw. Sue retired from Pennville Custom Cabinets after 20 years. She was a member of R.E.A.C.T. and Circle X where she enjoyed square dancing.

Sue married John Friend on Dec. 18, 1965.

Survivors include:

Her husband — John Friend, Portland, Indiana

Two sons — Danny Weaver, Portland, Indiana, and Gary Weaver, Portland, Indiana

One daughter — Karen Faught (husband: Robert), Portland, Indiana

One sister — Ruth Bruss (husband: Butch), Portland, Indiana

Nine grandchildren — Erin, Telisa, Laura, Sara, Kristy, James, Bailey, Jayden and Megan

12 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Adam and Garrie Weaver.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Herb Hummel will officiate the service and burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, west of Bryant.
