Jadyns are everywhere now
As I See It
By Diana Dolecki-
I am beginning to think there is an invasion of the Jadyns.
When my brother, David, and his wife, Apryl, named their baby Jadyn I thought it was an odd name. They said they got it from an episode of Star Trek when one of the characters was on a field trip and used the name as an alias. I had never heard of it before. The next thing I knew a large percentage of children were being named Jadyn. It is suitable for both sexes and has several different spellings.
Our Jadyn is all grown up now and engaged to a very nice girl. I have never met her but David and Apryl like her and I respect their opinions.
Their son is a big boy, tall, freckled, red hair and totally lacking ambition. He is as easy going and as likable as a guy can be. He lives in Ohio, close to his family.
While we were doing the grocery shopping this past week my hubby told me to stop and look. I couldn’t believe what I saw. It was him, same size, same red hair, same gait, almost the same everything. When we went to check out he was our cashier. That’s when I realized that he had the same accent and phrasing as our Jadyn.
It wasn’t him but the resemblance was close enough that I told David about it. He said there were at least two more Jadyn clones in Eaton. I asked if the Jadyns were going to take over the world. David said,” No, they just want to play video games.”
In the past few years I have noticed an actor who reminds me of Jadyn. The characters he plays are usually bad guys who rarely come out of the show alive.
It has been said that each of us has a doppelganger. That is a fancy word for someone who looks a lot like someone else. It is rather disconcerting to find someone who looks familiar in a place they can’t possibly be. The previous time that we shopped for groceries in that store there was a lady who looked a lot like my mom. She wore the same clothes that looked like what my mom would wear. Her outfit was complete with a blue baseball cap and snow white hair poking out from underneath the cap. Mom has been dead for several years now so it couldn't possibly have been her.
In addition to Jadyn and Mom, I have found one guy in town who strongly resembles my hubby. I’ve only seen him once but I admit I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw him. If I had been thinking I should have asked him a few questions, such as what his name was.
Several years ago we were shopping in Richmond and some guy came up to us and insisted that my hubby used to work with him at Costco and was called Big John. Hubby brushed him off several times before the stranger finally took the hint and left us alone.
I wish we had thought to question him. We were more intent on getting what we came in for than we were about talking to a stranger who insisted my hubby was once known as Big John.
Many people have a strong resemblance to their relatives. When I was working on my genealogy I was introduced to one of Mom’s cousins. He looked so much like my brother, Michael, that there was no doubt he was related to us. We expect those things to happen. But when we see a stranger who looks like us it is always a bit unsettling.
I am relieved that the Jadyns of the world are not seeking to overthrow anything. As long as we can keep them well stocked with video games and snacks we should be safe from tall guys with red hair. On the other hand it might be nice to have an easy-going Jadyn in charge.
