MUNCIE — Levi Muhlenkamp kicked off his career with a bang.
Muhlenkamp, a Jay County High School freshman, scored twice in leading the Patriot boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory over the Muncie Central Bearcats on Tuesday.
It was the first of six consecutive road games to start the season for the Patriots (1-0), who had a one-goal lead at intermission before pulling away in the second half.
Dylan Marentes, another Jay County freshman, netted the Patriots’ other goal.
Cristian Marentes and Kaleb Meadows assisted on the goals, and Ian Ruiz turned away seven shots as goalkeeper.
Jay County’s junior varsity team played to a 3-3 tie. Carter Link scored twice and assisted on Brayden Collins’ goal.
Volleyball drops opener
FAIRMOUNT — The Jay County volleyball team dropped its season opener Tuesday to the host Madison-Grant Argylls, 25-21, 25-12, 25-18.
Madison Dirksen led the Patriots with nine kills, nine digs and 10 service points. She also collected three aces.
Abbie Fields was second with five kills, and Kylie Klopfenstein ended with three kills. Izzy Rodgers notched 12 assists, and Grace Brewster totaled five digs.
Girls win
ARCANUM, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team topped the Arcanum Trojans on Tuesday at Beechwood Golf Course.
Jalyn Bruns was match medalist with her round of 40. Paige Bihn and Shelby Acheson both shot 56, and Alaina Will ended with 61 to complete the Tribe’s total.
Kim Hart (61) and Macy Brunswick (63) also competed, but they did not factor into the team score.
