MUNCIE and UNION CITY — The Patriots lost their first match Saturday morning.

They’ve won three in a row since.

Jay County High School’s boys tennis team improved to 4-4 on the season following the Muncie Burris Invitational on Saturday at Ball State University and a dual match against Union City on Monday.

The Patriots (4-4) lost to University 4-1 on Saturday to open the Burris Invitational, then rebounded with wins against Randolph Southern (5-0) and Muncie Central (4-1). On Monday, Jay County swept Union City 5-0.

Crosby Heniser was 2-1 at No. 1 singles on Saturday, including the team’s only win against University. At No. 2 singles, Abraham Dirksen was 2-1, while cousin Simin Dirksen was also 2-1 at No. 3 singles.

Brothers Gavin and Sam Myers were 1-1 in No. 1 doubles matches. Gage Sims and Luke Muhleknamp won the No. 2 doubles match against Muncie Central.

Against UCHS, Heniser topped Owen Dowler 6-4, 6-2, and Abraham Dirksen defeated Braydon Hoggatt 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. Simon Dirksen beat Cale Jefferis 6-4, 6-2.

The Myers brothers beat Zack Fulk and Parker Kerns 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, while Muhlenkamp and Sims defeated Corbin Richards and Brennan Hoggatt 6-1, 6-3.
