CELINA, Ohio — It took five dual matches for the Patriots to get their first win.
They got two more the following day.
Jay County High School’s girls golf team picked up a pair of victories, including a conference win, by placing first in a three-team match Tuesday at Celina Lynx Golf Club.
The Patriots (3-5, 1-4 Allen County Athletic Conference) shot 230 for first place, six strokes ahead of Adams Central. South Adams, which defeated Jay County earlier in the season, shot 238 for third.
Janae Jacobs paced the Patriots with her round of 54, and Rosealynne Smith was second with 57. Paityn Chapman was third for JCHS with 59, and Maddy Snow completed the team score with 60.
Cassandra Coffin also competed, but she did not factor into the team score.
Hot streak continues
NEW CASTLE — Jay County’s boys soccer team continues to stay as hot as the temperatures with a 2-0 victory against the New Castle Trojans.
It marks the third consecutive win for the Patriots (3-0), who have knocked off Muncie Central and Woodlan by 3-1 and 4-1 scores, respectively.
Brothers Cristian and Dylan Marentes provided the offense for Jay County, each scoring a goal and assisting on the other.
Ian Ruiz had three saves for his first shutout of the season and 11th of his career.
Patriots fall to Falcons
WINCHESTER — Fresh off an upset of the Delta Eagles, Jay County’s volleyball team was on the losing end against the Winchester Golden Falcons on Tuesday, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
Madison Dirksen had six kills to lead the Patriots (1-2), and Abbie Fields was second with five. Brenna Haines collected 15 digs in the setback, while Grace Brewster registered 13 digs.
Sophie Saxman and Izzy Rodgers finished with seven and six assists, respectively.
Jay County’s junior varsity team won, 25-23, 25-19. Bella Denton and Laila Waddell each had six kills. Saxman recorded eight assists, seven digs and seven service points.
