Some music stays timeless

Letter to the editor
Some music stays timeless
Some music stays timeless

To the editor:

Upon my visit to the new old Pennville Library — I think I’m forming a good habit — I ask the librarian about music CDs. She is still unpacking, but brings out a box full.

Who pops out but my man John Lee Hooker. He don’t need no words.

Then there’s Ella Fitzgerald and a multi-disc bebop. And Barbara Mandrell.

And then there’s Jimi Hendrix, a face as recognizable as Abraham Lincoln. After trying to read the back of the CD cases — it’s too hot for glasses — it’s Steve Val, Carlos Santana, Stanley Clark (to name a few) and the London Metropolitan Orchestra. Wow.

I’ll try not to wear out the disc before I return it next week and I head to Bean Blossom.

If you haven’t heard it, you should check it out. Music and books should be free for everyone.

Jimi left us in 1970. This album was made in 1995. I found it now. Timeless.

Some artists make new music. Somae people are happy to play old songs. The true greats make their music, then start over on the old songs.

Some people build new, fancy houses, some people just fix their old houses, because it’s home.
