Larry Chittum, age 85, of Portland passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at his residence.
He was born in Portland on Nov. 7, 1936, the son of Gilbert and Louise (Dull) Chittum. He was married on June 30, 1962, to Donna Meinerding, and she survives.
Larry was retired from Teledyne Portland Forge. He was a 1954 Portland High School graduate and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sons of American Legion and Portland Elks Lodge. Larry played, coached, umpired and was a major fan of the Portland Rockets. He enjoyed bird watching, playing cards, golfing, singing karaoke and listening to Grove Hill Band. Larry was the author of the Gnaw Bone Fight Song and frequently wrote letters to the editor.
Surviving are his wife Donna; two sons, Vince Chittum (wife: Laura) of Bargersville and Patrick Chittum (wife: Jenn) of Wauseon, Ohio; one daughter, Debbie Jackson (husband: Doug) of Portland; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Chittum; and grandson, Chris Jackson.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021, at 4 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Langham presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m.
