Fortkamp guides Indians in recent meets
Teigen Fortkamp had two individual wins in helping the Fort Recovery High School girls swim team take second Saturday in the Celina Waterdog Sprint Meet at Jay County.
New Bremen won the title with 195 points, and Fort Recovery was second with 116 points. Jay County totaled 79 for third.
St. Marys Memorial had 224 points to win the boys’ meet. New Bremen scored 120.5 for second, and Minster had 113 for third. Jay County was fourth with 79 points. Fort Recovery finished fifth with 32 points.
Fortkamp, a FRHS sophomore, won the 50-yard freestyle with her time of 25.44 seconds, and added a win in the 50 backstroke in 29.27 seconds. She was also the runner-up in the 50 butterfly to Jay County’s Mara Bader (28.62) and placed third in the 50 breaststroke (also won by Bader in 32.8 seconds).
Bader finished behind Fortkamp in the 50 backstroke, and placed sixth in the 50 freestyle.
Fort Recovery’s Audra Bubp placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke.
Elly O’Connor of Union City, who trains with Jay County, was seventh in the 50 backstroke and eighth in both the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.
Kyle Sanders had a trio of top-eight finishes for the JCHS boys. He was third in the 50 freestyle, fourth in the 50 butterfly and sixth in the 50 backstroke.
Fort Recovery’s Sage Wendel placed eighth in the 50 backstroke.
On Monday, the FRHS girls split a double dual with Hagerstown and host Delta. The Indians beat Hagerstown 51-48, and lost to Delta 66-36.
Fort Recovery’s boys lost to both Hagerstown (58-13) and Delta (87-8).
Fortkamp won both the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 12.86 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.09). Joelle Kaup (100 backstroke – 1:13.62) and Bubp (100 breaststroke – 1:16.08) also had wins.
Melissa Laux, Fortkamp, Bubp and Kaup combined to win the 200 medley relay in 2:05.99.
Wendel set two school records for the FRHS boys. He was fourth in the 200 freestyle with his time of 2:07.45, and runner-up in the 500 freestyle at 6:03.54.
