Paige Fortkamp was the go-to attacker for the Cougars this season.
She came through over and over again, and was recently rewarded for doing so.
Fortkamp, a 2021 Fort Recovery High School graduate, was named the 2021 NAIA American Volleyball Coaches Association Regional Freshman of the Year on Tuesday.
She’s the first player in University of Saint Francis volleyball history to receive the honor.
“Paige had an amazing first season,” USF coach Scott Haddix said in a release. “She is such a great worker who studies the game really well and made terrific adjustments to her play all season.
“We leaned on her a lot this season, and she handled the pressure very well for a freshman outside hitter. To lead this conference in kills per set and total kills is an amazing accomplishment and she was recognized by a majority of the Crossroads League coaches.”
Forktamp also earned Crossroads League Freshman of the Year award.
The 5-foot, 9-inch outside hitter tallied 366 kills, averaging 3.8 kills per set for the Cougars. Her 397.5 total points led the team by more than 150 points.
