The boys got their first win of the season.
The girls officially have a winning streak.
Jay County High School’s boys and girls swim teams both defeated the visiting South Adams Starfires on Monday.
The boys won 111-28, moving to 1-2 on the season, and the girls got a 173-99 victory to push their record to 3-0.
Josh Monroe and Kyle Sanders were both double winners for the JCHS boys. Monroe was first in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke, while Sanders beat the competition in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.
Konner Sommers (100 butterfly) and Nick Lyons (500 freestyle) also had individual wins.
Jay County’s boys swept all three relays as well.
Morgan DeHoff and Mara Bader had two wins apiece for the girls. DeHoff took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly races, while Bader got victories in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Maddy Snow (diving) and Emily Dues (100 backstroke) picked up wins as well.
Wrestlers take fifth
MUNCIE — The Jay County Elementary Wrestling Team capped its dual season by placing fifth Sunday at the Delta Elementary Duals.
Jay County went 2-2, defeating Yorktown and New Castle while suffering defeats to Leo and Noblesville.
Blake Wood (4-0) and Eli Shannon (3-0) were both undefeated on the day. Khoden Bentz, Morgan Abernathy, Brenna Ruble and Varen Ridgway were all 3-1. Bryce VanSkyock, Maddox Byrum, Max McClain and Freddie Lingo each went 2-2.
Jessie Blanton, Landin Dakin, Ryder Stephen, Danica Chowning, Lennox Byrum, Latham Hamilton and Memphis Torre also competed for Jay County.
Boys top Bruins
The Jay County Junior High School boys seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both had commanding victories over the Blackford Bruins on Monday.
The seventh graders won 45-11, while the eighth grade team got a 50-32 win.
Benson Barnett scored 17 point, including 15 in the first quarter, to lead the seventh graders. Jayden Comer added 10 points and Joe Geesaman scored eight.
Carter Fugiett put in a dozen points to lead the eighth grade team. Kade Sommers and Drew Schemenaur each chipped in seven points. Cole Forthofer pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds.
Girls split
MUNCIE — Jay County’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams split with the host Northside Titans on Monday.
The eighth graders won 28-13, and the seventh grade squad lost 28-19.
Lani Muhlenkamp scored nine points for the eighth graders. Alexis Sibray was second with seven points, and Raylah Newton finished with four points. Rinah Cross and Mya Kunkler scored two points each.
Lizzy Brunswick and Natalie May led the seventh graders with four points apiece in the loss. Gabi Petro scored three points, while Ella Rigby, Daila Runyon, Jessica Sims and Amelia Heath had two points apiece.
