Fort Festival of Trees is open

Taking Note

Festival of the Trees is back.

The 17th annual event kicked off Dec. 6, and it goes until Dec. 31 at Fort Recovery Public Library during regular business hours. Trees have been decorated by local businesses, organizations, families and individuals.

Visitors may vote for their favorite tree, and the display with the most votes will receive the title of 2021 People’s Choice Award. The display is free and open to the public.

Scholarship available

A scholarship is available to future professionals in the agriculture industry.

Helena Agri-Enterprises is offering $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors planning to study agriculture or science. Through the Helena HomeGrown Scholarship, the company will award scholarships to about 65 seniors across the Midwest pursuing two or four-year degrees in either field. The scholarship is available to the Class of 2022 in several counties and states, including Adams, Blackford, Delaware, Jay and Wells counties.

Applications are due Jan. 30, and winners will be notified by March 1. Students can visit helenahomegrown.com to apply.

Christmas at library

Jay County Public Library has a few more holiday-themed events left this month.

Children are invited to the library from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 20 to make gingerbread slime. There will be a gingerbread man scavenger hunt Monday to Dec. 30. Those who find the gingerbread man can visit the front desk for a prize.

The library is also showing  “A Christmas Carol” at 2 p.m. Dec. 22.
