FORT RECOVERY — The Roughrider defense created too many problems for the Indians.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team committed 21 turnovers and shot 14 percentage points worse than the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders in a 59-37 loss on Tuesday at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The loss drops the Indians to 1-5 on the year. Memorial improved to 3-1.
Fort Recovery trailed 10-4 at the end of the first quarter before going into halftime down 25-12. The Roughriders outscored the Indians 22-13 in the third quarter to lead 47-25 with one quarter to play.
Memorial, which was 45.3% from the field, scored 17 points off of the Tribe’s turnovers. The Indians, meanwhile, were 31.8% from the field.
Fort Recovery’s Mara Pearson led all players with 14 points. She was 5-of-13 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Cali Wendel finished with 10 points. Whitley Rammel had a game-high eight rebounds to go with her five points.
Jay falls to Delta
MUNCIE — Jay County’s boys and girls swim teams both lost to the host Delta Eagles on Tuesday.
The Patriot girls suffered their first defeat, 110-76, and the boys fell 142-37.
Mara Bader had two individual victories and helped a winning relay. She had a time of 1 minute, 4.44 seconds to win the 100-yard butterfly, and was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.05.
Elayna Paro, Hannah Laux, Zion Beiswanger and Bader won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:54.74.
Maddy Snow (diving – 168.4 points) and Morgan DeHoff (100 freestyle – 1:04.75) also had individual victories.
