Obituary
Richard “Dick” Glenn Phillips, 98, of Redkey, Indiana, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at IU Health Jay in Portland, Indiana.
Dick was born in Smoky Junction, Tennessee, on July 7, 1923, a son of the late Artensie (Anderson) and Richard L. Phillips. He was a 1941 graduate of Mann High School in West Virginia.
Dick was a shift foreman at Kerr Glass in Dunkirk, Indiana, and the loving husband of Priscilla Phillips who he happily married on Aug. 3, 1947, and sadly lost on Dec. 29, 1993. He attended First American Baptist Church and enjoyed woodworking, westerns, the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, bluegrass music, traveling to 48 of our 50 states, mowing, being outdoors, movies, telling stories and visiting with family.
Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who didn’t know a stranger; he just had friends he hadn’t met yet.
He is survived by five sons, Gary Phillips (wife: Kathy), Ed Phillips (wife: Cathy), Jeff Phillips (wife: Alisa), Steve Phillips (wife: Vanessa) and Stu Phillips (wife: Michelle); one daughter, Mary Stafford (husband: Doug); one brother, Larry E. Phillips (wife: Nellie); two sisters, Eileen Stanley and Evalee Garrison; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Jewel Spurlock; and mother of his children, Priscilla Phillips.
Friends are invited to call Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, from 10 a.m. to noon at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel. Graveside services will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey, Indiana, at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Randy Davis officiating.
At the request of the family, masks will be required of all visitors regardless of vaccine status.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
