FORT WAYNE — The Patriots made team history.
Jay County High School’s wrestling squad was flawless Saturday, going 5-0 in the Carroll Super Duals.
It marks the first time in team history the Patriots have gone undefeated in the tournament.
Jay County, which is ranked fourth in Class 2A, started the day by beating the host Chargers 43-33, then topped Northrop 69-9. In the third match of the day, the Patriots upset Class 2A No. 2 Garrett 43-32, then rattled off wins against both Bishop Dwenger (51-25) and East Noble (40-18).
Daniel Moore (106 pounds), Cody Rowles (113), Ethan Reiley (126) and Bryce Wenk were each 5-0 in their respective weight classes. Tony Wood was 4-1 at 132 pounds while A.J. Myers had the same record at 170, and Conner Specht was 4-1 at 285 pounds.
Cameron Clark (3-1), Taye Curtis (3-2) and Cameron Gage (3-2) all also had winning records.
Pair claim titles
MISHAWAKA — A pair of Jay County girls wrestlers claimed individual championships in the Penn Girls Invitational on Saturday.
Lizzie Dollar won the title at 106 pounds, while Mallory Winner was the 160-pound champ.
Also placing were Tricia Ison (182 – fifth), Jayla Huelskamp (113 – sixth) and Dakota Chowning (113 – seventh).
Lina Lingo, Mollie Hines and Mattie Affolder also competed for the Patriots.
Three are perfect
FORT WAYNE — Three wrestlers went undefeated for the Jay County junior varsity squad in the Carroll tournament Saturday.
Max LeMaster ended his day 4-0, while Juaquin Flores was 3-0 and Landon Garringer went 1-0.
Griffin Byrum was .500 at 1-1, while Carter Barton finished 1-2 and Vasin Ridgway was 0-3.
