Deer hit
Three Indiana residents crashed into deer in Jay County earlier this week.
Joshua T. Roysden, 33, Hartford City, was driving eastbound on Indiana 26 near county road 500 West about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday when three deer ran in front of his 2018 Nissan Altima. Roysden told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he slammed on his brakes to miss the animals but still struck one of them, causing damage to the passenger side of his vehicle. Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Zachary M. Louck, 30, Redkey, was driving southwest on Indiana 67 just northwest of county road 700 West about 8:40 p.m. Monday when a deer ran across the road. Louck wasn’t able to avoid colliding his 2015 Ford F250 with the animal, causing between $2,500 and $5,000 in damage estimated.
Elizabeth A. Skiver, 65, Portland, was driving west on Indiana 26 near county road 300 East about 11:20 p.m. Monday when a deer ran into the road. Skiver wasn’t able to avoid hitting the animal with her 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Dog hit
A Decatur man drove into a dog on U.S. 27 in Jay County about 7:10 p.m. Friday.
Dean L. Groo Jr., 58, was driving south on the highway just north of county road 400 North when a dog entered the road. Groo wasn’t able to avoid hitting the animal with his 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. Eric Smitley of Jay County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t able to locate the pooch after the accident.
Damage is estimated less than $1,000.
Backing accident
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500 after a Bryant man’s vehicle backed into a Portland man’s car in the Village Pantry parking lot in Portland about 11:15 a.m. Friday.
Michael L. Williamson, 24, told Portland Police he was sitting in his 2003 Dodge Dakota at the exit of 704 N. Meridian St. leading to Meridian Street and backed up to make room for incoming traffic. As he backed up, he didn’t notice the 2016 Dodge Dart, driven by 44-year-old Jason W. Priest, behind him, and Williamson’s vehicle crashed into Priest’s car.
