Howard Guntle

Howard G. Guntle, age 76, of Portland passed away at his residence on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021.
He was born in Celina, Ohio, on March 23, 1945, the son of Howard P. and Dorothy Grace (Jones) Guntle. He was retired from Jay County Highway Department and had worked at Rockledge. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was a member of the VFW in Fort Recovery and American Legion Post #211 in Portland.
Surviving are two sons, Dustin Garrett of Bluffton and Troy; one brother, Daniel Guntle (wife: Marilyn) of Pennville; three sisters, Mary Meyers (husband: Jim) of Pennville, Marjorie Hickey of Petroleum and Beverly Hodge (companion: Jim Murphy) of Portland; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three children, Angela Guntle, Mary Mae Norris and Scotty Garrett; brother Larry Guntle; and sister Judy Hough.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the Bluff Point Cemetery with Pastor Herb Hummel presiding. Military rites will follow by American Legion Post #211.
Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
