Ruth Coulter

Jun 6, 1937-Dec. 25, 2021

Ruth Ann (Clark) Coulter went to her eternal home in heaven on Dec. 25, 2021.

She was born June 6, 1937, to Donald and Ruth (Steele) Clark in  Boundary, Indiana. She grew up in Jay County. She graduated from Saratoga High School in Indiana in 1955. She was married to William Byrd in 1955. She lived in Jay, Delaware, and Randolph counties and  raised five children.

She was very active in the Clear Creek  Congregational Church and the community until 1987 when she married Lloyd Laverne Coulter on June 6, 1987, and moved to his family farm in Grant County, where her family became even larger with the addition of six step-children.

She was a farm wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (GG), homemaker, 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, church pianist and organist and Avon representative. She gave piano lessons for close to 70 years to children and adults alike. She was a Title I aide at Willard Elementary and a Bus aide for Madison-Grant Schools on the bus her husband drove. She was an active member of the Fowlerton United Methodist Church, The Friendly Rural Couples, Farm Bureau, Home Extension Club and Ladies Aide.

Her life was devoted to her Christian faith, family, and to helping in any way she could. She played piano and organ at Fowlerton UMC as well as the Holy Family of Gas City Catholic church during services.

She enjoyed watching and supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in 4-H, sports and their activities.

She hosted many exchange students over the years from Denmark, Brazil, France, Switzerland, Peru and Japan. She always kept a close relationship with the first of them, Jorgen Rasmussen, from Denmark.

She believed a letter was as good as a phone call and still wrote many personal notes to people. She loved music and could not only read music, but play it by ear. She was loved and appreciated by many.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 34 years, Lloyd Laverne Coulter; three sons, James Byrd, Winchester, Indiana, David Byrd (Deb), Elwood, Indiana, and Ron Byrd, (Abby) Brookston, Indiana; two daughters, Diana Dull (Scott), Winchester, Indiana, and Karen Byrd Hardin (William), West Lafayette, Indiana; stepchildren Mike Coulter (Tonia), Albany, Mark Coulter (Rhonda), New Carlisle, Ohio, Larry Coulter (Sherry), Gaston, Lisa LeCount (Ben), Albany, and Sara Morgan (Michael), Noblesville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 27 step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Lu (Dunmoyer) Foltz; a brother, Robert Clark (Mary Ann); a step-daughter, Sandra Taylor Schroeder (Doug); step-granddaughter, Autumn Grace Morgan; and her first husband, William Byrd, the father of her children.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec, 29, 2021, at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, Indiana, from 4 to 7 p.m., as well as an hour before the funeral. The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Fowlerton United Methodist Church, 315 Franklin St., Fowlerton, Indiana.

Masks will be required for the visitation and funeral service on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fowlerton United Methodist Church.
